NORMAL In Schools (NIS) is a national nonprofit arts-and-education organization that educates about the devastating impact of eating disorders, the therapeutic impact of the arts, and related issues such as body image, self esteem and family communication.

Programs include: Live tours of the NIS program (a Jonathan Larson award-winning rock musical followed by a talkback with expert panelists), NIS Curriculum, INSIDE OUT (Celebrating inner beauty through theatre, music and art), SELF ESTEEM STOMP (a family event with an interactive experiential “playground”), TEAM NORMAL (education for athletes and sports teams) and (coming soon) the online NIS Program.

Join or sponsor the SELF ESTEEM STOMP — a family event to educate about self esteem. Sunday, October 24th at Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI!!

NORMAL in Schools (NIS) will kick off its first annual 5K family walk/fundraiser, Self Esteem Stomp, at 10 a.m. Sunday, October 24, on the campus of Alverno College, 3400 S. 43rd St., Milwaukee.

The Self Esteem Stomp is the first annual family event of its kind designed to help the entire family learn about self esteem while having fun. The event will begin with a casual, family-oriented 5K walk followed by interactive outdoor activities including live music, drum circles, yoga and art.

Local school groups, sororities, community clubs and individuals and student organizations from middle, high school and colleges are encouraged to register for this all-day event.

Because lack of communication is too often “normal” in families, NIS’s programs encourage individuals to be ‘abnormal’ — to share their true feelings, allow for mistakes and imperfections, discontinue seeking external validation, and embrace self-love, self-gratitude, and self-worth.

Part of our mission is to promote healthy self esteem in individuals of all ages – but particularly young people. This first annual Self Esteem Stomp is a perfect way to make this topic fun for the entire family.

Proceeds from “Self Esteem Stomp” will be used to help NORMAL in Schools create a cutting-edge, online DVD film version of its award-winning educational program to enable access to a worldwide audience reaching beyond students and educators to include patients in recovery, families, clinicians and athletic teams.
