Thanks to our sponsors, including Remuda Ranch, Rogers Memorial Hospital and TEAM NORMAL, the NIS Company brought the tour of NOR•MAL to Franklin High Shool in Milwaukee, WI, Wisconsin State PTA Conference in Green Bay, WI and to St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI. Below are a some results from the April tour: Feedback: Wisconsin State PTA Conference (Green Bay, WI) NIS was the key note presentation at the Wisconsin State PTA Conference in April, 2008. After the presentation, NIS held an hour-long workshop about the effects of the NIS arts-and-education program in the schools. Below are comments from PTA conference attendee evaluations: –- “Eye opening and very informative on a very important topic” –- “A great group of presenters – I would love to bring this group to our school district” –- “The most interesting and informative session” –- “Hoping to get this into our schools” –- “What a great program” Feedback: St. Norbert College (De Pere, WI)
Below are some quotations from the post-show reflections collected from the St. Norbert College performance in April, 2008: “Thank you. So many of the phrases came out of my head and my thoughts along our journey with our daughter’s struggle. She has been in treatment and continues to see a counselor. It is encouraging to hear that she can be cured.” –A college student suffering from an eating disorder wrote: •“NORMAL brought up a few things I want to talk over with my parents. I wish I could have brought them with me.” –Another student wrote: •“I sobbed in a healthy way. Anorexia almost took my life 1.5 years ago. 2 months in treatment made all the difference!” Feedback: Franklin High School (Franklin, WI) "As a wrestling coach and health educator for 16 years and having a very diverse background with a variety of different eating disorders I felt this hour and a half that I spent with my 7 year old son watching had the most powerful message possible. Over the years I have tried numerous ways to get students at the high school level to understand what's involved within a variety of different eating disorders. The message I received from the musical did a great job of explaining not only what an eating disorder is but what it does to a family. I would recommend that they take this musical nation wide on a variety of different tours, because every high school kid should receive this message. In a nut shell I felt it was a powerful, creative and enjoyable way to present a tough topic to a tough audience." ~Louis Brown, Physical Education Teacher, Franklin High School

By bringing a curriculum centered around the musical NOR•MAL into schools along with an expert specializing in the treatment of eating disorders and a person in recovery, NORMAL In Schools seeks to advance understanding and promote healing.
NOR•MAL is the true story of a family's struggle with a daughter's eating disorder. This Jonathan Larson Award-winning musical features book by Yvonne Adrian, lyrics by Cheryl Stern, music by Tom Kochan, developed by Jack Cummings III and developed for the NORMAL In Schools program by Robyn Hussa and Eric Christiansen.
